In the Spring of 2008, after researching multicultural sororities, Yovanel Armanza saw an opportunity to change the face of Greek life at the University of North Florida. Yovanel’s goal was to bring a new multicultural sorority to the campus of UNF. The University of North Florida Colony of Sigma Lambda Gamma National Sorority Inc. was founded on December 16, 2011. After many years of perserverance.

The 14 women that made this possible are Cristina Ramos, Angelica Franklin, Candice Perry, Maheshwarie Maniram, Angelica Davila, Yovanel Armanza, Naomi Bermudez, Natasha Williams, Julia Egbebike, Adedamola Bolujo, Sacha Olan, Nicole Gonzalez, Chelsea Mincey, and Carly Cravotta. These fourteen women's personal visions and hopes for UNF to have a prominent and well-known multicultural sorority on its campus became a reality. They are trailblazers and stopped at nothing until they achieved their goal. On May 15,2013 the University of North Florida Colony was granted Chapter status. The colony is now known as the eXubErant Xi Epsilon Chapter of Sigma Lambda Gamma National Sorority Incorporated.

UNF Gammas strive to maintain academic excellence. We host internal and external study session and academic improvement programs to make sure we are living up to our  2.75 GPA standard. We also host "SLG is Stress Free" to hand out test-taking supplies at the end of the semester.

Community Service is something that is very important to our everyday lives. It is important that we continue to give back. As an entity we love volunteering and participate in many walks such as "Walk the Talk for Epilepsy" we also participate in the Harvest Food Drive & wrap presents for under-privileged children.

Not only is it important to know about where you came from, it's also important to know about the cultures of others. We make sure to educate ourselves on cultures we represent as well as the ones that we don't represent. We also host events to educate the campus about the diverse cultures we share.

As members of Sigma Lambda Gamma we display good sound moral judgment at all times, respecting the fact that we are always viewed as representatives of this organization. We are considerate and kind to all people, giving people the same respect we would like to be given.

Social functions serve as a time to bond and get to know each other in a fun and relaxing atmosphere. We plan internal social events and also host events for the campus. One of our events is the "Pink &
Red Mixer" which promotes Breast Cancer & HIV/AIDS Awareness.
